Ghaziabad: A doctor and staff nurse of a community health centre in Loni were shunted for allegedly prescribing medicines that are not available at government pharmacies and forcing patients to get themselves tested at private facilities.

Chief medical officer Bhavtosh Shankdhar issued an order that Dr Bihari Kumar Thakur, a consultant at the health centre in Loni, be attached to the district TB office. Komila Singh, a nurse at the Loni facility, was shifted to a health centre in Bamheta.

“We have been receiving complaints that the doctor and nurse were prescribing medicines that are not available at the health centre. This is against government rules. They have also been asking patients to get themselves tested at private centres. We have initiated an inquiry and the doctor and nurse have been shifted out of the health centre,” the CMO said.

Shankdhar said he was tipped-off by a patient about Dr Thakur and Komila. DM Saxena, the additional CMO, was sent to the Loni centre for a ground check and for preparing a report. The two were removed after the allegations were found to be true.

The CMO also wrote to authorities at the two district hospitals and health centres in Loni, Dasna, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar and Bhojpur that there were allegations that several doctors were prescribing medicines that were not available in government pharmacies and forcing patients to undergo pathological tests at private labs.

“If anyone is found involved in any wrongdoing, strict action will be initiated against them,” Shankdhar said.

The CMO also transferred Dr Anurag Sanjog to the health centre in Bamheta following a request by him. He was posted at the Bhojpur centre earlier.
