Google: Pixel Fold is not Google’s first foldable phone, here’s what happened to the first one – Times of India
According to Ivy Ross, Google head of design for hardware products, said in an episode of the Made By Google podcast that the company was working on a second foldable phone.
“I’m really proud of the team because there was another foldable model that we had created, that we had the discipline to hold back and say ‘nope, it’s not good enough yet,’ and really wait until we felt like we could do something that was good enough or better than what was out there already,” Ross said.
“So, it’s really a testimony (sic) to the fact that we’re able to do that and recognise when something isn’t good enough,” the executive added. However, Ross did not confirm what type of foldable smartphone Google was working on.
Google Pixel Fold
Google launched Pixel Fold at the Google I/O 2023 event. The smartphone is powered by the in-house Tensor G2 SoC, paired with a Titan M2 security chip, runs on Android 13 and packs triple rear cameras.
The smartphone features a 7.6-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and there is a 5.8-inch full-HD+ OLED cover panel with 120Hz refresh rate. The external display has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection, while the inner display has a plastic coating.
The phone is backed by a 4,821mAh battery and competes with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, Oppo Find N2 Flip, Tecno Phantom V Fold and Huawei Mate X2.
