Google Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 series receive 5G in India

Google Pixel 6a, 7 series 5G update

As seen in the screenshot above, Google has finally rolled out 5G support for its Google Pixel 6a and Google Pixel 7 lineup of smartphones in India. The support was already rolled out to the users enrolled in beta via the QPR beta 2 update back in January, but those who waited for the same to arrive via a stable build won’t have to wait any more.

That being said, many users are still to receive the update on their eligible device, as the update seems to have been rolled out in batches. We did not immediately receive the update on our test device until midnight yesterday. So, there are chances that your eligible device will only show up the latest update prompt in a day or two.

Nevertheless, things appear to be working just fine with the leading telecom operators, as we were successfully able to test the 5G network with both Jio and Airtel SIM cards. The latest update weighs around 2.2GB, so in case you have a metered data connection, you might want to switch to your Wi-Fi connection to be able to download the file swiftly. This, though, will likely be the last time that you’d potentially have to worry about slow speeds, as you will finally be able to access 5G on your device post the update.

In addition to 5G support, the latest update also enables improved Dual SIM Dual Standby on the Google Pixel 7 series smartphones, which lets you enable 2 eSIMs at the same time without using a physical SIM.

To check for the latest update on your eligible Google Pixel device, you can head to Settings, tap System, and select the System Update menu. Upon pressing the Check for Update option, you will be able to install the latest update, provided it has already arrived at your device. If not, you can keep checking this menu, as the update should not take too long to arrive.
