Google Meet is getting yet another minor but important improvement. Google has made a small UI update to the Google Meet which, going forward, will let its users know more about the noise cancellation and background noise around them.
According to a Google blog post, the new UI change in Meet will let users know how loud is their background environment and also how much background noise cancellation is active.
For those who don’t know Google Meet comes with a noise cancellation feature which can restrict background noises like construction sounds and other random sounds to make the meeting experience better. Earlier there was no way of knowing how much background noise removal is being done by Google.
However, Google has now added a new Blue voice indicator which expands and contracts based on the background noise and how much noise is being removed when the noise cancellation is enabled.
So, if the ring is expanding then Google Meet is removing background noise. There are essentially three stages to it. Let us explain:
If you don’t see the voice indicator, no audio (voice or noise) is coming from you.
If you see the circle expanding with the Reducing Noise message, then a burst of noise is being filtered out while you speak, and other participants will only hear your voice. This visual cue is triggered at most once per meeting.
Noise is being filtered out on a continuous basis while you speak, and other participants will only hear your voice. The noise level is reflected by the ring size.
The new noise cancellation indicator is now rolling out to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Workspace Individual customers.
The feature won’t be available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, and Nonprofits, as well as G Suite Basic, Business customers and personal Google Account users.
