Google may add this handy Assistant feature to its Contacts app: What is it – Times of India

Google has reportedly started testing a useful Assistant feature for its Contacts app on Android. According to a tweet from Esper’s Mishaal Rehman, the tech giant has started rolling out a new card for Contacts that will help users to add and find Assistant information directly in the app. When the Contacts app is updated, an Assistant info card will pop out where users will be able to manage the details that will be needed for hands-free calling.
This feature will save the hassle of jumping between two apps as the Assistant info will be available directly on the Contacts app. The new update for the Contacts app has reportedly started rolling out widely, however, it seems that it is unavailable for everyone.

What is Assistant info
Android phone owners can use the voice assistant to call a contact for hands-free operation. Google Assistant saves all the information it knows about certain saved numbers of family members and other related persons which include the date of birth, relationship, address and even the proper pronunciation of the name.

This information is important for more convenient hands-free calls as Google Assistant wouldn’t know how the contacts are related to each other. So, users have to add these details to the Assistant which can now be done directly on the Contacts app.
How to use it on Contacts
As mentioned above, Google Contacts will start showing an Assistant info card once the app is updated. This new card will come with a button that will allow users to manage its settings. On tapping the button, the user will be redirected to the Your People page in the Assistant settings.

Here, users can either add more contact associations to the list or can even create a family group with members linked to their Google accounts. The company is expected to add more functionality to this new card in the upcoming days.
