Google kills its AR-based measurement-taking app Measure: Report – Times of India

0

Internet search giant Google has reportedly killed its AR-based Measure app.
According to a report by Android Police, the app is no longer listed for accounts that did not previously have it. Further, for those who downloaded it at least once before and therefore have it in their app library, the listing now states, ”This app is no longer supported and will not be updated. Users who previously installed this app can continue to use it on compatible devices.”
The report also adds that the current release is the “final version,” implying that no more updates will be rolled out for the app.
To recall, the Measure app was launched back in 2016 and made use of the phone’s camera on ARCore-supported devices to measure the dimensions of things.
Google so far has not officially announced anything about the Measure app.
Earlier this year in March, Google discontinued its most affordable VR headset — Google Cardboard. The Cardboard VR headset is no longer available after five years of its first release.
“We are no longer selling Google Cardboard on the Google Store. We will continue to help the community build new experiences through our Cardboard open source project,” a message on the Google Store page said.
Before that, back in December last year, Google announced that it is shutting down its 3D object library and platform Poly. “Poly will be shut down on June 30, 2021,” the company said on its support page.
