Google is making Web app installation process better with its new user interface on mobile and desktop – Times of India
Irrespective of the fact that Web apps bring several benefits, installing them has always been a cumbersome process and the process varies depending upon the platform or the browser. Also, the installation process does not offer users much information about the Web apps as the current ‘Add to Home screen’ popup on Chrome does not include much information in addition to the Cancel, Add to Homescreen and the app icon.
That appears to be changing soon as Google has announced its new Richer Install UI for Web apps. This allows developers to add a Play Store like Install card when the Install button is clicked on the website.
The new Richer Install UI will be available on mobile devices, Chromebooks and desktop.
What has changed design-wise
First and foremost, the new Install card slides up from the button. Plus, it looks similar to the Play Store Install card which includes details about the app along with images. Also, the Add to Homescreen button has been replaced with an Install button that gives the feeling of the app getting installed on the device.
On desktop, the Install card appears to be similar, except it appears in the centre of the webpage and slides from the top.
How Google’s Richer Install UI will help users
With the new Richer Install UI, Google is making it easier for developers to add more information about their Web app. This helps users understand better about the app and also get an idea on how the app will look like and work on their device.
