At I/O 2023, the annual developer conference held by Google annually, there were a host of software and hardware enhancements, which the company showcased. The event also saw Google showcase its Artificial Intelligence might as the company introduced Duet AI for Google Cloud – an AI-powered collaborator.
As Google evolves Google Workspace with Duet AI, the company is looking forward to building a cloud platform that is more “human-centric, holistic, and helpful, with responsible.”
Those who signed up for Google Workspace Labs are now seeing the generative AI, “Help you write” features in Gmail and Docs.
To check if it is available in Gmail on the web, start composing an email, and there will be a new “Help me write (Labs)” button next to “Send” and a formatting option located at the bottom of the toolbar.
Thereafter, a blue/purple-ish messaging field appears at the bottom of the screen for users to enter a prompt, with Google rotating through suggestions. It takes a few seconds for something to generate.
In case, the user is not satisfied with the result, they can use the “Recreate” option to regenerate the text while “Insert” will paste and text and allow the user to make further edits. Google marks with brackets where you should delete and enter your name or other specifics.
The “Refine” option located next to “Recreate” takes a few seconds for something to generate, and you then have the ability to:
Formalise: Makes the draft more formal
Elaborate: Adds details to build upon the text
Shorten: Shortens the draft
I’m Feeling Lucky: Updates draft with creative details
When a new page is opened in Google Docs, it shows a “Help me write” chip, which follows the same workflow as Gmail, but the “Help me write” button can be found to the left of your cursor on the edge of the page to access it again.
