google: Google testing new dark theme for Android smartphones – Times of India
Google is reportedly testing a ‘darker’ dark theme for Android users. As per a report by 9to5Google, the company has started to roll out the new dark theme for Search app with the beta update. The tech giant has been testing the new theme for quite some time. Last week, a few users noticed that their Search pages have switched to #000000 (Black), instead of dark grey. Apart from this, the users also reported that colours for links and previously visited pages have also been tweaked to look a bit bolder than regular. The quick settings panel referred to the new pitch black theme as ‘Dark theme’ only.
In Android smartphones, the new dark theme only applies to the background of Google Discover. But in the app the background colour is now closer to black (#171717) instead of pitch black #000000 on the desktop. The company has also tweaked the pill-shaped search field.
Google offers you an option to choose a Light theme or Dark theme for Google Search for desktop. You can choose your preferred theme or Google automatically sets the theme for Search as per the theme selected for the device. Currently it is not yet known whether the new dark theme will only be limited to the Search or the company will extend it to other apps as well.
As the theme is part of the beta update, it is not available for every user. If you want to try the ‘darker’ dark theme for Google app, you can get it by installing the version 13.8 of the app from the beta channel.
