Google: Google Photos crashing for some iPhone users after iOS 16.3.1 update – Times of India

iPhone users, if you use Google Photos, it may be better that you delay updating to iOS 16.3.1 as the update appears to be crashing down the Google Photos app for iPhone. Several users across the internet report that the Google Photos app crashes instantly upon opening.
iOS 16.3.1 update was released earlier today, but instead of fixing bugs, it seems to have introduced a new one for users. There are a number of complaints on social media regarding a problem where the Google Photos app crashes immediately after users update to iOS 16.3.1.
As per the reports, users who download the Google Photos app do not experience any crashes during the login process. However, once access is granted to the entire user library, the app crashes, indicating that the issue may be related to how Google is accessing the images in the library.
However, other apps with full access to the library seem to work fine for users.
The cause of the Google Photos app crashing on iPhone is currently unknown. The iOS update, which may or may not have caused the problem, is a minor one meant to fix bugs and security issues, per Apple‘s release notes.
So far, there is no workaround, so it is highly advised that users wait until the issue gets fixed. Users can choose to turn on automatic updates on their iPhones.
Google seems to be aware of the issue and is “in the process of rolling out a fix in version 6.23.1 of the Google Photos app,” said Michael Marconi, a spokesperson for the company, in a statement to The Verge.
If you have already updated to iOS 16.3.1, you should keep looking out for the Google Photos update.
