google: Google Maps will now show you how much toll you have to pay – Times of India

0
If you end up travelling on national highways then you must be aware that you have to pay toll fees across the country. This toll fee isn’t a standard amount and varies from route to route. There might be times when you are low on cash and don’t know how much you have to pay. To solve this problem, Google Maps is rolling out a new feature.
In a post on its community page, Google said that “to help make the choice between toll roads and regular roads easier, we’re rolling out toll prices on Google Maps for the first time.”

How will the toll fee feature work?

Before you start navigating, you’ll see the estimated toll price to your destination. Google relies on “trusted information” received from local tolling authorities to arrive at the estimated toll fees. “We look at factors like having a toll pass or not, what the day of the week it is, along with how much the toll is expected to cost at the specific time you’ll be crossing it,” Google explained.
Further, users will have the option within settings to show toll prices with or without having a toll pass. This is because in certain areas in many geographies the price changes based on the payment method people use. If you don’t want to pay the toll and want to take another route, there is also the option to avoid routes crossing toll roads entirely, if possible, by selecting ‘Avoid tolls’ within settings.

We checked the feature on Google Maps for iOS and could see it live. However, it’s not available for every route. For example, when we searched from Delhi-Jaipur or Delhi-Udaipur we could see the estimated toll fees. But when we checked for Delhi-Chandigarh, Google Maps didn’t show the estimated toll fees. Google has said users will start seeing toll prices on Android and iOS for nearly 2000 toll roads in the US, India, Japan and Indonesia. So it’s not clear how many toll roads in India are part of this Google Maps feature.
