Google Foldable Pixel Tablet: After Pixel Fold, Google may launch a foldable Pixel Tablet – Times of India
According to sources within the supply chain, DigiTimes has reported that Google and Apple are contemplating the creation of foldable tablets. As of now, neither company has confirmed any concrete plans. However, the report suggests that if Google decides to move forward with this idea, the foldable tablet could debut at Google I/O in 2024.
The report notes that the products are only concepts at present and have not been scheduled for production. According to the source, if Google decides to proceed, we may expect to see the device released as early as next year.
While Google still has a foldable phone in its catalogue, Apple’s iPhone has still not gone foldable. But, it could also be planning a foldable tablet, which, as per the report, could come before a folding iPhone.
Apple is also working on a foldable iPad
There have been reports that Apple has been developing its own foldable smartphone for several years now. In addition to this, a source from within their supply chain has stated that Apple is interested in expanding this concept to the tablet industry.
There is not much information available on the rumoured foldable iPad, but the idea has been mentioned before. Apple has applied for patents for foldable displays for iPads and MacBooks, which include hinge mechanisms for safe folding and protection from accidental drops.
Apple is expected to release a foldable iPad before the iPhone, according to CCS Insight’s October 2022 prediction. Samsung has also confirmed a foldable device announcement in 2024, but not for the iPhone. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests a folding iPad with a carbon fibre stand could also be released in 2024.
However, Display Supply Chain Consultants Ross Young mentioned in January that he had only heard of a 20.5-inch foldable notebook coming in 2025 and not of a foldable iPad in 2024. In February, Gurman added that a 20-inch foldable device, potentially an iPad or a type of notebook, could be released by 2025.
