Google Duo makes a ‘comeback’ on Android – Times of India
Google recently merged its video calling platform and video conferencing platform into one. As a part of the merger, the company rebranded the Google Duo app into Meet. Earlier in August, the company also rolled out an update that replaced the Duo’s Blue icon with the Meet icon. Along with that, the company also added Meet features into the app along with regular Duo calls and other features.
However, it seems that Google is making some changes again. 9to5Google has reported that the company is rolling back the Duo name and icon on Android smartphones. Initially, it was understood to be a bug or some issue. However, Google has confirmed to the website that it is an intentional change.
According to the report, the rolling back Duo icon will help users easily find the app. Also, Google Duo has a much bigger user base compared to Meet. Going forward, users will see both Meet and Duo icons in their launcher which will launch the same unified app.
According to the statement provided by Google, this step has been taken in order to help people find the app in the easiest possible way. Considering, Duo is a much more regular app compared to Meet to make personal video calls, this step appears to be a nice move from Google.
It is also worth noting that Google is yet to update the Duo’s listing on Play Store as it still shows Google Duo in the app store. Also, we checked the entire Google Duo icon coming back on Android and it appears that the entire Google Duo listing has come back as we managed to download the Duo app from the app store.
