Google ‘Duo’ is gone for good, web app gets Meet branding – Times of India
Earlier this year, Google announced the merger of its video calling app Duo and video conferencing platform Meet. As a part of the merger, Google Duo was rebranded into Meet and in August, the Pixel smartphone-maker replaced Duo’s blue icon with Meet’s colourful one. As per the latest development, the web app is now getting Meet branding essentially removing Duo from all platforms.
Meet is Google’s only video app that is available on the Play Store. If you search “Duo” in the Pixel Launcher or even on the Google Play store, it will bring up the Meet app. In fact, the description of the app on Play Store says that Google Duo has been upgraded to Google Meet. “The updated Meet app allows you to easily and instantly video call your family and friends or schedule a meeting in advance,” it says.
When you open duo.google.com on your browser, you will see Google Meet branding. Google had already said that Google Duo conversation history, contacts, and messages will remain saved and can be accessed in Meet history.
