Google Chrome could leverage AI to organize tabs and compose text

0

Google has been at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) be it for computational photography on Pixel devices to its AI chatbot Google Bard. The search engine giant is continuing its escapade to introduce an array of AI features across all its products and Google Chrome will not be spared as well. Google is working on AI-backed features to automate tab organization on Google Chrome and a new autofill helper tool that lets you rewrite using AI.

Usually, these under-development and experimental features are disabled using various flags enabling which, you can get access to the same. Similarly, a Chrome expert @Leopeva64 on X posted a bunch of updates about the AI settings that might make it to Chrome soon.

As you can see in the various videos below, a new section has been added on Google Chrome Settings dubbed as ‘Advanced’. It doesn’t feel fishy until you see the URL which reads “chrome://settings/ai” and you don’t need a rocket science degree to tell what the AI stands for in this context.

At present, there are two ‘additional settings’ under AI that are ‘Autofill Helper’ and ‘Organise Tab’. To give a context on the first one, the Autofill Helper is a rebranded version of ‘Chrome’ that was originally in the works. Enabling these features doesn’t do anything which goes on to show that it is still in its early stage of development which means there’s more time to wait.

Google Chrome has been under the lens for its tab and RAM management, however, it seems like AI could help sort and organize tabs better for maximum productivity. The feature is still under development and there’s nothing much we can say about how it works. The X posts do mention an ‘organize tabs’ button that will auto-populate when you have a sufficient number of tabs open. This should allow you to better organize the tabs.

Since this is a feature listed under AI, we are hoping AI and ML could help with sorting and management. As usual, the timeline for these features to make it to Google Chrome officially is unavailable. However, with the influx of AI across all the segments in tech and non-tech cos, we could see AI on Google Chrome giving it a prominent position over Microsoft’s Bing.
