Google parent Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has thanked the union minister for electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw for visiting Google headquarters in the US, Googleplex. “Thank you for taking the time to visit us at the Googleplex, Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw. Enjoyed discussing the many ways we’re working together on India’s digital transformation, and the opportunities ahead,” tweeted Pichai. Google CEO’s tweet was in response to IT and railways minister Vaishnaw’s tweet about his meeting with Pichai. “Met @sundarpichai at the @Google HQ. Good discussion on India Stack and Make in India program,” tweeted Vaishnaw. The minister also shared a photo of his visit to Google headquarters.
Minister on US tour
The IT minister is on a tour of the United States. He also reportedly met top executives from several semiconductor manufacturing and fabrication companies operating out of the US and Europe. Vaishnaw also addressed members of SEMI, a US-based global industry association of electronics and design supply chain manufacturers.
Semiconductor manufacturing companies in the US and Europe have backed India’s approach to creating a well-rounded and complete semiconductor ecosystem, the minister told Economic Times. “The meetings have been very fruitful. The message was clear there is no doubt India is the next big destination for everyone in semiconductors to invest. They acknowledged that we have taken the right direction by first focusing on the building of the ecosystem for a fab plant to sustain,” Vaishnaw said.
Google CEO Pichai last met Vaishnaw during his India visit in December 2022. He then said that it was important for the government to create regulatory frameworks that help companies innovate on top of those local laws of the land. Pichai had also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged support for India’s G20 Presidency.
