Google Authenticator update brings this much need feature: Details – Times of India

Google Authenticator is an app that facilitates two-factor authentication for different accounts, and services to make them more secure. Now, if you’ve ever used the authenticator app, then you must be aware that the app does not offer a sync feature that makes it really difficult for users to port all the data stored on the app from one device to another in case the device gets lost or stolen.
Google has recently rolled out a new update for the Authenticator app on both iOS and Android which adds the backup feature for one-time codes also known as OTP, and one-time passwords to Google account.
Google, in its official blog post, mentioned that users have been giving feedback about the complexity in dealing with lost or stolen devices that had Google Authenticator installed. Considering the one-time codes were stored only on one device that means, once the device is lost, it becomes impossible to login into accounts that have the 2FA feature enabled via Google Authenticator.
The new sync feature comes as the solution to the problem and with the feature the one-time codes will be synced with Google Account securely and users will be able to access them via their account and that too without compromising on the safety and security of their accounts.
How to get the new sync feature in Google Authenticator app
The new sync feature is a part of the latest version of Google Authenticator app. To try the feature, Android users can head to Google Play Store and install the latest version available for Google Authenticator. Apple iPhone users can head to Apple App Store and then update the app.
That’s it. Once the latest version of the app is installed on the device, the feature will be available.
