GMSH wait for catherisation laboratory continues in Chandigarh – ET HealthWorld
Chandigarh: Despite UT health secretary Yashpal Garg resuming the process of the catherisation laboratory launch at GMSH-16, it is yet to be established. On the other hand, GMCH-32 has started the catherisation laboratory, where procedures of angioplasty and angiography were conducted after PGI doctors were sent on deputation. At GMSH-16, which took up the issue again in January, the lab is yet to come up, even in PPP mode.
“Establishment of the laboratory is in progress,” said UT director health services Dr Suman Singh. Tender for the catherisation laboratory was floated in 2020 but the project came to a halt. It has taken off again after the UT health secretary wrote to Infosys to start the laboratory in public.
“If GMCH could start the system after utilising services of a government doctor and then send doctors for training to AIIMS Delhi, why is there a need to have the PPP model? Doctors from GMCH or PGI can be asked to join or train the staff,” said an official in the UT health department.
Already, GMCH and PGI are burdened by the large number of patients coming for treatment of heart diseases. The proposal was made to add another facility in a government hospital.
The plan is to have a 25-bedded cath lab with advanced technology and equipments. It will be situated in the emergency block of the hospital. GMSH-16 has also been approved to start diagnostics through PPP mode. This includes PET scan, MRI, CT scan, ECHO etc.
