Georgetown Stays Alive in MSC Baseball Tournament With 5-0 Victory Over Thomas More

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Third-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) stayed alive in the MSC Baseball Tournament with a 5-0 victory over No. 6 seed Thomas More (Ky.) at Bowling Green Ballpark.

With the victory, the Tigers (35-17) will face Freed-Hardeman tonight at 6 p.m. CT with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday.

Mathew Flores threw a complete-game shutout allowing just two hits, no walks and striking out four. Georgetown recorded 11 hits with four players recording multiple hits. Eric Thrower drove in three runs for the Tigers.

After a scoreless first inning, Georgetown got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Following a groundout, Nicholas Dilorenzo reached on an error by the Thomas More shortstop. O’Neal then doubled to put runners on the corners before Thrower drove in a pair to give Georgetown a 2-0 lead. Brandon Krennrich made it a 3-0 Tiger advantage with a sacrifice fly.

Flores gave up a one-out single in the second and then retired the next 12 Saints batters. Luke Turino led off the fifth inning with a single. Thrower recorded his third RBI of the game driving in Turino on a single up the middle. The Tigers added one more in the eighth to take a 5-0 lead. Flores ended the game retiring the last 10 Thomas More batters to secure the shutout.
