Gangubai Kathiawadi finally enters the ₹100 cr club, Alia Bhatt celebrates with burger and fries

Actor Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has made Rs. 102.68 crore as on Thursday at the domestic box office. The actor shared the news on her Instagram Stories. She later shared her pictures enjoying a burger and some fries and thanked her fans for showering love on her film. On Thursday, Alia shared a bunch of photos of herself. She captioned her post, “Happy century to Gangubai & happy vegan burger + fry to Alia. Thank you for all the love.”

Actor Ranveer Singh dropped a cheeky commented, “Nomnomnom.” One fan wrote, “Foodie Alia.” A fan commented with a line from Gangubai Kathiawadi, “Gangu Chand thi, aur chand he rahegi.” Another one praised her and said, “No one can play Gangubai Kathiawadi better than you.” One fan commented, “You deserve every bit of it.” 

Alia also shared a poster of the film on her Instagram Stories, along with the box-office numbers. The film has collected Rs. 102.68 crore domestically.

Last month, in an interview with PTI, Alia revealed how she prepped to play the titular role in the film. She said, “He (Sanjay) wanted me to watch Meena Kumari’s work a lot, her expressions… the way she would sing a song, although I am not going all out singing songs in the movie. There is a certain sadness in her eyes, but there is a power to her face. He would say, ‘See her face, which is so full’… I also watched Mandi,”

“Being an actor is one thing and being a heroine is another. I have been referred to watch these films and whenever I do, I only have admiration, whether it is for Waheeda Rehman Ji, Shabana Azmi ji, Madhubala ji… The way they would do these long shots gives you goosebumps. Somehow, we have lost that charm of presenting a heroine like that, that old-world charm,” Alia added.

Gangubai Kathiawadi stars Alia as a girl sold into sex work. She soon takes over Kamathipura as its leader and matriarch. The film also stars Vijay Raaz and Ajay Devgn.
