Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass is a popular subscription-based game-streaming platform that allows users to play titles across multiple devices. The tech giant has been offering new Xbox Game Pass users a $1 trial subscription for some years now. The company has reportedly shut down its $1 trial offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. According to a report by The Verge, this trial offer wasn’t available in certain markets for brief periods. The report claims that Microsoft has decided to end this trial offer as it might be considering new ways to promote the game-streaming platform.
What Microsoft has to say about ending the trial offer
As per the report, in a statement, Xbox’s head of global communications, Kari Perez has confirmed that the company has shut down Game Pass’ “introductory offer”. Perez said, “We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future.”
Xbox Game Pass trial offer: Key features
The $1 trial allowed users to register for Xbox Game Pass for a month. However, users who opted for the trial offer had to pay up for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription from the next month. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is priced at $14.99 per month (Rs 499 per month in India) while the PC Game Pass subscription (which works only with a PC or console) carries a price tag of $9.99 (Rs 349 per month in India).

Why was this $1 trial offer important
This $1 trial was a good way for users to recommend the platform to a friend or family. However, Game Pass users will now have to know what “different marketing promotions” Microsoft is planning for new members.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Friends & Family plan
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Friends & Family plan allows users to share their subscription benefits with up to four other friends or family members. This shared subscription plan is currently available in countries like — Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Hungary, Israel and Sweden. However, there are still some markets including the UK, the US and several European countries where Microsoft is yet to launch this plan.
