Five beauty innovators on their go-to products
Her favourite product, Go-To The Removalist ($48), is a purifying clay mask that hydrates and brightens. “It detoxifies so you get clear, radiant, bouncy skin, without any gross, dry, tight after-feel,” she says. “It is packed with soothing minerals and plenty of skin-loving antioxidants to brighten, hydrate and protect. I use it weekly at night.”
Hilary Holmes
Creator of Holme Beauty and Hilary Holmes Makeup.
Holmes has her own hashtag when it comes to beauty: #backyourbeauty. Holmes, who worked as a make-up artist here and in London, built the brand from the ground up. She learnt at the coalface what does and doesn’t work and says passionately that she “wants people to feel incredible in their own skin”.
Holmes is also well known for her masterclass program. Based in her Geelong studio and available online, it focuses on looking and feeling good holistically. One of Holmes’ can’t-live-without products is her Holme Beauty Primer in Bang ($65). “I wear it by itself or under foundation and it totally changes the vibrancy of my skin,” she says.
Ava Matthews and Bec Jefferd
Co-founders of suncare brand Ultra Violette (Vi for short).
Matthews says, “Beauty is all about loving who you are.” Her favourite “baby” in the extensive range is Queen Screen Luminising Sun Serum SPF 50+ ($47). “It makes my skin look like it’s been kissed by angels,” says Matthews.
Ultra Violette is all about “future proofing” your skin – protecting it from damaging UV rays and the daily onslaught of ageing. Two of our favourites are Ultra Violette Bite Sheen Screen SPF 50 Hydrating Lip Balm ($25) and Daydream Screen SPF50 Tinted Veil ($55). Leave no skin surface uncovered – all year round.
Ask Steph
How can I make my fragrance last longer?
Skin that’s well hydrated is key. Layer fragrance with a matching oil or body lotion to boost longevity, or go for an oil with no scent, applying your perfume over the top.
