PULASKI, Tenn. – University of Tennessee Southern Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Brandie Paul announced on Thursday the hiring of Tyler Robb as the Firehawks head softball coach. Robb’s hiring caps Coach Paul’s 22 seasons as the head coach of University of Tennessee Southern softball, and just the 6th coach in Firehawk history.

Coach Paul steps down as the head softball coach at Tennessee Southern after a lengthy trail of success, and continues her leadership as Athletic Director, which she began full time in May 2021. During her time with the Firehawks, Coach Paul compiled 682 wins, writing her place in history as the winningest coach among all sports at UT Southern and in the top ten winningest coaches in the NAIA. Her storied career included leading three teams to the NAIA national tournament, guiding the program to multiple nationally-ranked seasons, and her historic 2016 team setting the school record of 47 wins in a single season.

“I am honored to have been the softball coach for 22 seasons. However, as life changes we are called to serve differently, and I am thrilled to take on the challenge to now coach a different team,” said Paul. “Coach Robb is a deeply driven leader, and has displayed a true passion for the game of softball. He was a great representative of UT Southern during his baseball career, and I believe he will continue to represent the Firehawks extremely well as a head coach.”

The Florence, Alabama native joined UTS softball last year as an assistant coach. He helped the Firehawks to a 27-win season primarily working with hitting. Robb was a three-year member of the Firehawks baseball team earning his bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2021. Robb has averaged .314 for his career compiling 87 hits. He is a 2015 graduate of Central High School in Florence.

“I am humbled and honored for this tremendous opportunity,” Robb said. “I love everything about this community and university. It is my vision to uphold a positive culture and winning environment within our program which will leave a lasting impression amongst current and future Firehawks.”
