Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman asks Infosys to address I-T Portal issues on priority

At a high-level meeting attended by the Bengaluru-based company’s managing director and chief executive Salil Parekh and chief operating officer Pravin Rao, Sitharaman expressed concern over the problems stakeholders were facing with the portal, which was expected to provide a seamless experience to taxpayers, the finance ministry said in a statement.

“The FM asked Infosys to address all issues without further loss of time, improve their services, and redress grievances on priority as it was impacting taxpayers adversely,” it said after the meeting.

Minister of state for finance Anurag Thakur, revenue secretary Tarun Bajaj, Central Board of Direct Taxes chairman Jagannath Mohapatra, senior finance ministry officials, besides representatives of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and All India Federation of Tax Practitioners were present at the meeting. Sitharaman exhorted Infosys to make the portal more user-friendly. The new portal was launched June 7 but continues to face technical glitches.

The Infosys managers assured the government that it would resolve the issues within a week. The timelines mentioned by Infosys related to redressal of the issues would be placed in the public domain in due course, the ministry added.

Sitharaman said enhanced taxpayer services were an important priority for the government and every effort should be made to amplify the same.

Taxpayers flagged over 2,000 issues, including 90 unique problems, in the new portal through more than 700 emails received by the ministry.
