Fifa World Cup Day 10: England win 3-0, USA squeeze IRN to head to last 16

It was yet another great night of matches, the last set in Group B as England and the USA moved to the Round of 16 from this group. They would now face Senegal and Netherlands respectively, who qualified earlier tonight from Group A for the knockout stages.

The equation was very simple for both the teams, win and get to the Round of 16. For Iran though, permutations and combinations were inviolved and maybe that’s what casued them to not go all out from the start itself. But the US had no other option and therefore they wnet all out and Christian Pulisic put his body on the line to get the first goal for his team in the 38th minute.

That remained teh only goal of teh game even though Iran tried thier best to make comeback in the second half. Thanks to this win, USA finished with no losses and five points to their name and will move to the Round of 16.

It was plain and simple for Wales too. Win it against England and hope that the USA vs Iran ends up in a draw. But the first part could not materialise as England were simply too good for them. Marcus Rashford scored a brace.

His first goal came from a free kick which was also the first goal for England in the game. He became the first player to score directly from a free kick in this World Cup. With that goal, he also scored the 100th Fifa World Cup goal for the Three Lions.

In between the two Rashford goals was a goal from Phil Foden. Wales were just no match and became weaker after their skipper Gareth Bale had to be substituted after the first half.
