0
Faced with frequent raids and probes by central agencies such as the Income Tax, Enforcement Directorate (ED), many in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government feel BJP leaders and their supporters. should be given a befitting reply. However, there are dissenting voices, ministers within the government who are not keen on the state government entering into a slug fest with the Centre.

On Friday, the Pune police filed a case against former Pune Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla for illegal phone tapping of politician phones on the ‘false pretext that they were involved in the drug business’. Shukla is currently on central deputation and is posted in Hyderabad. The MVA has claimed that Shukla is close to BJP and had done the phone tapping at the behest of the party On Sunday afternoon, an FIR was filed against Union minister Narayan Rane and his son in the Disha Salian case. Rane has been claiming that Disha Salian was raped and killed and alleged the involvement of a MVA Minister in the case.

MVA leaders told ET that the actions have been taken after several deliberations as Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut and a few other MVA leaders have been asking the state government to take a ‘harder line’ against BJP. Recently, Raut late has been addressing press conferences and asking ministers such as Aaditya Thackeray to cancel environment clearances to a real estate company owned by Neil Somaiya for environmental violations. Neil is the son of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya who has been levelling a series of allegations of corruption against Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, transport minister Anil Parab, former Shiv Sena MP Anandrao Adsul and Shiv Sena MP Bhavana Gawali from the Yavatmal-Washim seat. All of them are being probed by the ED and other central agencies.

Sources said while Raut and other MVA leaders ,including a few Congress leaders, have been exhorting the MVA government to take a more proactive role, others like Ajit Pawar and Anil Parab have not been keen on further rocking the boat. “Those like Pawar are asking the government to focus on the state’s work and not to get sidelined by this tit for tat action. There is talk that those advocating for the government to go easy are apprehensive of them being put under further scanner,” said a Congress leader on condition of anonymity.

On Saturday, while speaking on the issue of Nawab Malik’s arrest, Pawar spoke of how there should be introspection on ‘revenge politics’.
