Facebook parent Meta working with OpenAI to create AI coding assistant: Report – Times of India

0

Facebook parent Meta is reportedly talking to Microsoft and ChatGPT maker OpenAI to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that will help its engineers in coding.
According to ‘Command Line’ by The Verge’s Alex Heath, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth recently told employees about the plan and said that it would cost the company about seven cents per query.
“That’s the only place in the company we’re really considering working with Microsoft and OpenAI, just because there’s a natural business integration there,” he told employees.

The executive also said that the company is “working on a companion that is more about all of our code and our internal documentation, built on our own infrastructure.”
According to Bosworth, the company is “moving very fast” and it will “have something to play with internally” in mid-June, maybe late June.
Last month, Google announced that it updated Bard with the ability to help people with programming and software development tasks, including code generation, code debugging, and explanation.

Meta not giving up on metaverse
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently said the company has been working on AI and machine learning technologies to power products like Facebook’s news feed or ad systems.
“It’s been a pretty amazing year of progress on this front, and the work happening now is going to impact every single one of our apps and services,” Zuckerberg said.
Meta is aiming to use the technology in chat experiences in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as well as in developing tools for making images for posts on Facebook and Instagram.
“There’s an opportunity to introduce AI agents to billions of people in ways that will be useful and meaningful,” Zuckerberg said.
Big Tech’s AI push
It is to be noted that both Meta and Microsoft, along with Google and Amazon have plans to heavily invest in the AI space. The CEOs of these companies talked about investments in their respective earning calls with analysts last week.
Meanwhile, a report by TechCrunch said that OpenAI received $300 million from VCs at a valuation of $27-$29 billion. These VC firms include Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive and K2 Global.
Microsoft has already invested about $10 billion in OpenAI and is making a supercomputer to train its AI models.
