facebook meta: This is how Twitter ‘made fun of’ Facebook’s new name – Times of India

Facebook’s announcement to rebrand as Meta unleashed a series of hilarious posts from Twitter users. Adding to the list of the critics is Twitter itself. Taking a dig at the social media company rebanding, the microblogging app shared a post that read “BIG NEWS lol jk still Twitter”.
While the tweet begins like an important announcement from Twitter, it eventually ends up making fun of Facebook with Twitter saying that it is still Twitter and is ‘just kidding’.

Facebook rebranded itself as Meta at its Connect event yesterday. At the announcement, the largest social-media platform said that Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses.
Metaverse is claimed to have been first coined in a dystopian novel about three decades ago. It broadly refers to the idea of a shared virtual environment that can be accessed by people using different devices. Facebook has already created a product team focused on the Metaverse. It has also announced its plans to hire 10,000 employees over the next five years to work on the project.
As we said before, Facebook’s name change gave the roasters a chance to roast the company. Here are some of the highlights of these wisecracks;
“You can put lipstick on a Meta, but it’s still Facebook”, wrote a Twitter user named
Charles Booker.

“Instead of asking, ‘What’s on your mind?’ the new Facebook will henceforth start asking, ‘What’s the Meta with you?’”, writes another user on Twitter.
“How can you tell anyone that you’re on Meta. Sounds like a drug,” writse @careaware.
There were plenty of meat jokes and memes as well. Highlight was the US hamburger chain Wendy’s who wrote “Changing name to Meat” and literally changed its Twitter profile name.
