Explained: WhatsApp Keep in Chat, how it works and more – Times of India
Meta-owned instant messaging app — WhatsApp– rolled out the Keep in Chat feature on its platform. The feature comes as an extension of the already existing Disappearing Messages. The feature is basically opposite of what Disappearing Messages are and here we have explained Keep in Chat, how it works and more. Read on:
WhatsApp Keep in Chat: What is it
As mentioned, the Keep in Chat feature is actually the opposite of Disappearing Messages yet it is a part of it. What this means is with Dissappearing Messages enabled, all the messages automatically disappear once they’ve reached the set timeline. But, what if you want to keep some of the chats, voice recordings, etc for future reference. For instance, someone has sent you a location and you don’t want it to disappear with the rest of the messages.
Enter Keep in Chat.
The feature is aimed at offering users the option to prevent a message from disaapearing. This will allow users to save important messages that they want to keep and prevent it from disappearing as a part of disapparing timeline.
How does it works
According to the official WhatsApp blog post, users can select a message from any chat and choose to keep it. Once the feature is enabled for a particular chat, the messages remain in chat despite the Disappearing Messages option being enabled for that particular chat.
Also, the sender gets notified when someone keeps a message and the sender will have the ability to veto the decision. The sender’s decision of not being able to keep a message sent by them, the decision will be final and the message will be removed from the chat irrespective of the fact that the receiver wants to keep it. Basically, the sender will have the final say on this.
The saved messages will be noted with a bookmark icon and users can see these messages, origanized by chat in the dedicated Kept Messages folder.
