Google has started rolling out new in-meeting reactions on Meet. The feature is currently rolling out to Google Workspace as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. In addition, the feature is also available for personal Google accounts.
The question here is: What are In-meeting reactions and how is it useful for users? Read on to know:
What is the In-meeting reactions feature?
In-meeting reactions are emoji reactions we know for WhatsApp, Instagram and other social networking platforms. The feature allows users to react using emojis during an ongoing Google Meet call. The implementation, however, is a little different from what we’ve seen on messaging platform. In the case of Google Meet, these reactions appear as a small badge in the sender’s video title and float up from the left side of the screen.
In-meeting reactions on Meet: Availability
According to the official blog post from Google, the in-meeting reactions are available on Meet web and meet certified devices. The Android and iOS versions of the Meet app will receive the same in future.
Also, note that the in-meeting reactions will be turned on by default. However, Admins get the option to turn it off in the Admin console.
As far as normal users are concerned, in-meeting reactions will be enabled as well. However, the meeting host will have the option to turn it off.
How it can help users express themselves better on a Meet call?
In-meeting reactions allow users to share instant reactions to a message in a non-disruptive way to engage and participate in a meeting without interrupting the speakers.
The in-meeting reactions allow users to respond to a query or agree to something that’s being discussed on the call. Also, the emojis have a skin tone option for users to choose and make a better representation of themselves.
