Ranchi: “My immediate focus will be on strengthening the emergency services of the hospital where a large number of patients arrive every day,” said new director (in-charge) of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) Dr Rajeev Kumar Gupta.

Dr Gupta who assumed the charge on Tuesday met with health minister Banna Gupta on Wednesday. Talking to media, he said that steps would be taken to ensure adequate number of stretchers and wheelchairs for transportation of the patients in the emergency ward. Notably, the daily arrival of emergency patients in Rims is between 200 and 250.

Replying to a question on private practice by Rims doctors, Dr Gupta stated that he would make sure that doctors are present in the hospital during the duty hours.

He said, “My aim is to get outputs from the doctors without getting into controversies. Those who do not meet the standards for surgeries, attending patients, conducting classes and other duties would be held liable. The data would be sought from each doctor.”
