He said that since AI can solve ‘prove you’re not a robot’ tests, paid verification increases the cost of bots by 10,000%. This makes it easier to identify bots by phone, hence, “paid accounts will be the only social media that matters.”
“Given that modern AI can solve any ‘prove you’re not a robot’ test, it’s now trivial to spin up 100k human-like bots for less than a penny per account. Paid verification increases bot cost by 10,000 per cent and makes it much easier to identify bots by phone and CC clustering,” Musk tweeted.
“Obvious conclusion: paid account social media will be the only social media that matters,” he added.
Musk has an ‘AI warning’ for people
Recently, Musk warned of potential consequences of an AI race between companies to dominate the search and browser market.
“Sure would be ironic if civilizations ended because of a fight over browser/search market share,” Musk tweeted.
He recently criticised OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, was started as a nonprofit open-source company but since Microsoft injected billions in it to better compete with Google, the company has become a closed-source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by the Windows maker.
OpenAI CEO responds
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has responded to Musk’s comments saying that OpenAI is “independent” of Microsoft.
“To say a positive thing about Elon, I think he really does care about a good future with AGI,” said Altman on ‘On With Kara Swisher’ podcast.
“I mean, he’s a jerk, whatever else you want to say about him — he has a style that is not a style that I’d want to have for myself,” Altman mentioned, adding, “But I think he does really care, and he is feeling very stressed about what the future’s going to look like for humanity.”
It is noteworthy that Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, along with other Silicon Valley figures, including Sam Altman, Reid Hoffman, and Peter Thiel.
