Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 is in no mood to slow down at the box office. The film co-starring Tabu and Akshaye Khanna collected ₹9.55 crore nett on day six of its release, taking it domestic box office collection to ₹96 crore nett. As per trade analysts, Drishyam 2 will cross the ₹100-crore mark on Thursday. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film also stars Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Saurabh Shukla. On Thursday, sharing the day-wise collections of Drishyam 2, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the movie would soon become the fifth Hindi film to do a business of ₹100 crore in India this year. He tweeted, “Drishyam 2 is in no mood to slow down on day 6… will swim past ₹100 crore today, day 7 (Thursday). Fifth [outright] Hindi film to hit century ( ₹100 crore) in 2022. Friday ₹15.38 crore, Saturday ₹21.59 crore, Sunday ₹27.17 crore, Monday ₹11.87 crore, Tuesday ₹10.48 crore, Wednesday ₹9.55 crore. Total: ₹96.04 cr. India biz (business).”
The Ajay Devgn film saw the second biggest opening for Bollywood in 2022, after it earned ₹15.38 crore at the domestic box office on its day 1. It had beaten the opening day collection of Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu. The film had earned ₹15 crore nett in India after it was released last month, making it the best opener for Akshay this year. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra – Part One: Shiva, which was released on September 9, saw the best opening for a Hindi original film in 2022.
Helmed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 2 follows the mysterious story of Vijay Salgaonkar (played by Ajay Devgn) and his family. In the film, Tabu reprised her role as Meera Deshmukh, Inspector General of Police. The film was released on November 18.
