The OPPO Reno Series has always worked towards elevating smartphone photography and enabling users to view the world from a completely new perspective. We have seen an array of smart and innovative technologies being presented through the Reno series, each one better and more useful than the previous. From new-generation RGBW sensors to NPU, to advanced software algorithms, superior imaging technology has always been a forte of the Reno Series.

With its next edition, the Reno10 Series will be bringing a new professional Telephoto Portrait Camera system. This will not only make the Reno 10 Series deliver beautifully-proportioned portraits with a soft bokeh but will also ensure that the camera module remains slim and to the liking of the Reno audience.

But what is it about the design and dynamics of this new Telephoto lens that has got tech enthusiasts talking? Let us look at what makes the technology a cut above the rest.

Professional Portraits with Telephoto Lens

The Reno10 Series features a professional Telephoto Portrait Camera system with an industry-leading resolution that aims to deliver ultra-clear portrait photos.

On the Reno10 Pro+ 5G device, you get the highest megapixel telephoto portrait camera in the industry at 64MP that supports OIS, 3× Optical zoom, and 120× Digital zoom. The device will offer ultra clear image quality within professional portrait focal lengths of 3× optical zoom equivalent to the focal length of 71mm resulting in professional portraits. The camera will let you shoot portraits at a distance as it does not have any mild fish-eye distortion. This guarantees that the portraits will have a more natural optical bokeh without the need to shoot the subjects from close.

On other devices in the Reno10 Series, the telephoto camera system can achieve focal lengths of 47mm which is close to the 50mm golden focal length for portrait photography. This enables the Telephoto Portrait Camera system to deliver results closest to the human eyes and improves the overall image quality.

The telephoto lens system on the Reno10 Series is also able to absorb infrared light hence reducing the glare on images significantly. Once you use the telephoto camera system on the Reno10 Series you will be able to see that in images the distance between the foreground and the background is shortened in photos thereby creating a more dynamic image. OPPO has also added the “Portrait Mode” bokeh algorithm which along with the telephoto lens on the Reno10 Series will be able to capture DSLR-level portrait photos.

Owing to its design, the telephoto lens sensor can capture more incoming light improving the clarity of images by 24% from the previous generation. The telephoto lens will also be able to deliver great results in low-lighting scenarios for a more natural low-light portrait. The telephoto camera system on the Reno10 Series will thus offer noticeable improvements owing to its higher resolution and larger sensor area thereby offering a flagship-grade portrait experience.

Exceptional Periscope Design of the Telephoto Lens

In most smartphones, lenses are stacked one over the other in a vertical array to deliver telephoto portraits. This makes the camera bump quite thick and protrudes out of the smartphone. OPPO engineers wanted to work around this vertical height constraint to ensure that users not only get a sleek camera design but also are able to reap the full benefits of the telephoto lens.

In the Reno10 Pro+ 5G, the optically-stabilized telephoto lens is turned by 90 degrees to focus light onto the image sensor after it travels through the prism. By turning the lens and the sensor sideways the structure takes less space and does not protrude out of the phone. In fact, the periscope module on the Reno10 Pro+ 5G is 0.96mm thinner than other devices making Reno 10 Pro+ the slimmest and lightest periscope telephoto handset in the industry to date.

In addition to the design of the telephoto lens, the Reno10 Series comes with ALD (atomic layer deposition) coating that prevents green and red glare to reduce light reflectivity by up to 70%. The Reno10 Series also adopts the BG spin-coating process to mitigate veiling glare for purer image quality.

Flagship-Grade Camera System

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G will feature a 50-megapixel primary camera with a Sony IMX890 sensor that supports OIS for high-resolution photos. This will deliver stunning and stable images whether you will be capturing outdoor shoots or shooting at home with friends and family.

There is also a new colour calculation engine, TurboRAW2.0 that will improve the dynamic range of every photo by 11% as compared to the previous generation Reno8 Pro for better color clarity.
Alongside this, you will also get an 8MP Sony IMX355 (a 112° ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/4-inch sensor) that will add to the device’s low-light photography capabilities. The IMX355 boasts a broad dynamic range that allows it to preserve details in bright and dark areas of any photograph enabling the camera system to perform better under low-lighting situations.

The front of the Reno10 Pro+ 5G gets a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor. The IMX709 which is an RGBW sensor has greatly enhanced portrait selfies on the Reno series and continues to enhance the overall appeal of the camera system.

The smartphones on the Reno10 Series will also feature proprietary algorithms, filters, and photo-editing tools to support the overall photography experience like any other Reno Series device.

Advanced camera algorithms will also add to the video recording capabilities of the device. You will be able to experience 4K videos with four times more dynamic range and an AI Depth algorithm to create a precise depth map for beautiful bokeh across videos. The AI Noise Reduction algorithm will also enable noise reduction for night-time videos.

On top of OPPO’s superior algorithm that will work its magic, the data will then be transferred to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC for exposure and colour adjustments for natural-looking, evenly-exposed videos. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC also powers the Ultra-Clear Imaging Processing Engine for better after-processing and preservation of data.

Reno10 Series ushers a new era of camera technology

Every device that has been introduced by OPPO under its Reno banner has bought forth camera technology that has enabled users to explore their creativity. It not only showcases the technological prowess of the brand but also highlights the brand’s philosophy of developing technologies that better human experiences and interactions.

We hold the Reno10 Pro+ 5G in high regard and are sure to be dazzled by its camera and other features. The brilliance of the camera system on the Reno 10 Pro+ 5G is yet to be experienced. However, going by what we have read we are sure that the device will deliver an outstanding telephoto portrait experience across a variety of user interests. We are eagerly looking forward to the launch of the device and be dazzled by the innovative smartphone experience it is set to present.
