Dharmendra shares video on ‘truth of life’ by Raj Kapoor, calls it ‘touching explanation’: Watch

Raj Kapoor needs no introduction. The legendary film actor, director and producer who brought worldwide recognition to Indian cinema, was fondly called the ‘Showman’ of Hindi cinema. His films emphasised on varied shades of life and touched people in more ways than just being a source of entertainment. From winning multiple awards to his films Awaara and Boot Polish competing in Cannes Film Festival, Raj Kapoor took the industry to great heights. His performance in Awaara was ranked among the top 10 greatest performances of all time in world cinema. He not only set example for budding actors but became an inspiration to his peers as well. Veteran actor Dharmendra is among those who believe in Raj Kapoor’s philosophy of life and how it connects with cinema.

Dharmendra shared an old video of Raj Kapoor where he is speaking about his films. In the video, Raj Kapoor is asked to name the most favourite among his films. In response, he compares films and filmmakers to a mother and her children. Just like a mother loves all her children equally, a filmmaker does not differential between his films, he says.

He uses an analogy to explain his point. He says that just like some children are weaker than the rest and therefore a bit more loved by their parents, movies that fail to do well become dearer to their makers. In the end, Raj Kapoor names ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and ‘Jaagte Raho’, the two films that failed to do well, as close to his heart.

Dharmendra has worked with Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker and also featured in Manmohan Desai’s multi-starrer film Naseeb which also starred Raj Kapoor.

Raj Kapoor died at the age of 64.

Meanwhile, Dharmendra will return to the big screen with Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. He also has his home production film Apne 2 starring Sunny, Bobby and Karan Deol in the lead roles.
