Key features and specifications
Alienware m18
Starting with the Alienware m18, the laptop offers four processor choices that range from the 14-core Intel Core i7-13650HX, to the 24-core Intel Core i9-13980HX. These are combined with five GPU choices, which range from the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 with 6GB GDDR6 graphics, to the RTX 4090 with 16GB GDDR6. While this combination is rated for 175W power throughput, Dell says that the laptop can be overclocked via the onboard software command centre to up to 250W throughput.
This is combined with two display choices — an 18-inch quad HD+ panel with 165Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, 100 percent sRGB colour gamut coverage and both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync support; and a second 18-inch panel with full HD+ resolution and 480Hz refresh rate. The rest of the specifications remain the same. The laptop can also be configured with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of DDR5 memory, while storage options range from 256GB to a whopping 9TB of NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD — the latter made possible in four PCIe SSD configuration.
Other key features include low-profile CherryMX keys with 1.8mm key travel and anti-wobble balance, 26.7mm width featuring the new Legend 3.0 design, and Cryo-tech cooling technology that includes four fans, seven copper heat pipes, vapour chambers for both CPU and GPU, and gallium-silicone thermal interface material for extra thermal absorption. All of this is powered by a 97Wh battery.
Alienware x16 R1
The slimmer and the neater looking of the two, and also more portable, the Alienware x16 R1 laptop offers a sleek design, coupled with the same layout of ports to the rear, surrounded by fan vents and RGB LED lighting. The laptop features a full-metal body, and comes with six speakers including two down-firing woofers — all of which have been co-developed with Dolby.
The AlienFX RGB LED custom lighting configurations extend to the trackpad on this laptop as well, while the Cryo-tech cooling and CherryMX keyboard remain the same as above. Alienware also advertises a power adapter that is 25 percent lighter and 46 percent smaller than the older versions.
In terms of core specifications, the laptop offers three 16-inch display choices — two quad HD+ variants with 165Hz or 240Hz refresh rate, and one full HD+ variant with 480Hz refresh rate. All of the options offer 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, and support for both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync.
The five GPU choices remain the same, but there are three processor options ranging from the i7-13620H to i9-13900HK. Storage options range from 256GB to 4TB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, while users can configure it with 16GB or 32GB of DDR5 memory. Instead of a full HD webcam, the Alienware m16 R1 offers an HD webcam. It also features a 90W battery, with choices of between a 240W or 330W power adapter depending on your laptop’s configuration. The laptop is 18.6mm thick.
