The Delhi government-run hospital located in Rohini faced disruption in power supply on Friday from around 3pm. According to the medical staff, power was restored in a phased manner by 11pm.
“Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd would like to confirm that the issue was found to be with the LT panel of Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, which hampered the electricity supply. We have ensured 11kV uninterrupted power supply to the hospital and additionally two more alternate 11kV supply sources were arranged as backup,” Tata Power mentioned in a statement.
No response was received from the medical superintendent of the hospital despite repeated efforts by TOI.
“Tata Power officials also offered to extend support in terms of manpower or provision of logistics like generators, electrical equipment, etc. However, the hospital replied by confirming manpower and the required medical emergency material/equipment were being arranged and work was going on a war-footing for early restoration of supply,” added TPDDL.
A senior doctor at the hospital said, “There was a major electricity failure due to a fault in the charging cables, which led to a short circuit. The power shortage led to stopping of medical services, including surgeries. However, no patients were affected. Critical patients were shifted to other hospitals.”
Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital is a 500-bedded multispecialty facility with super specialties like neurosurgery, nephrology, pulmonology and urology. It is located on 29.4 acres of land in Sector 6, Rohini. It provides comprehensive medical care services to the residents of north and northwest Delhi.
A senior doctor said 14 patients were transferred, of which three were in the ICU.
