New Delhi: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena inaugurated 41 science labs at New Delhi Municipal Council schools on Saturday. He also inaugurated special health facilities for sanitation workers in Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run hospitals.
Congratulating the 6,700 students of 21 schools who will be benefitted by the labs, the LG said, “This is an era of science. Without science and scientific temper, no step forward for socio-economic and human advancement could be envisaged.”
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stress on girl child education, the LG said that “the education of a girl child leads to educating the whole family and in turn educating the entire society and nation”. He further added that apart from studies, extracurricular activities are also needed for the overall development of students.
On the occasion of the PM’s birthday, MCD rolled out two welfare steps— addressing the health needs of the sanitation workers and fighting the menace of tuberculosis.
The LG inaugurated dedicated OPD services for sanitation workers at an event organised at Hindu Rao Hospital. He lauded the role of swachhata sainiks in keeping Delhi healthy and clean. The facility, available at all 10 major hospitals of MCD, is likely to benefit over 50,000 sanitation workers and their families.
Delhi’s chief secretary Naresh Kumar was present at both the events.
