DATRI, SRCC Children’s hospital organise donor-recipient meet to encourage stem cell donation

Mumbai : DATRI and SRCC Children’s Hospital managed by Narayana Health, jointly organized a ‘donor and recipient Meet’, to celebrate how bone marrow and blood stem cell donors have given those suffering from different blood cancers and blood disorders, a chance at life.

The meet was a platform for donors and recipients to share their feelings and thoughts and to encourage people to step forward for stem cell donation which could help them to cure and make a difference in people’s lives.

Addressing the event Sumati Misra, Head, Counselling and Transplant Management, DATRI said, “For many suffering from fatal blood disorders like blood cancer and Thalassemia, a blood stem cell transplant is the only hope of survival. Everyone can help to spread awareness on blood stem cell donation and gift a life. DATRI’s endeavour and mission is to ensure every patient in need finds a match.”

Dr Purna Kurkure, Head, Paediatric Haematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, SRCC Children’s Hospital, concluded, “Be aware and share to care. If we work together with this mission, we will be able to cure more and more children and make their life meaningful as with time the outcome and success rate of BMT is improving and it is in-between 70 to 80 per cent.”
