NEW DELHI: Cristiano Ronaldo, on his 200th international appearance, proved once again why he is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time in a thrilling Euro 2024 qualifying match.
The 38-year-old striker scored a late winner as Portugal defeated Iceland 1-0 in Reykjavik, maintaining their flawless start to the qualifying campaign.
Ronaldo’s goal, his 123rd for Portugal, came in the 89th minute as he expertly guided the ball into the net from close range. It was a historic moment for the veteran forward, who also extended his record as the most capped player in men’s international football.
Speaking about his remarkable achievement, Ronaldo expressed his joy, stating, “For me, it’s an unbelievable achievement, it’s amazing. And of course, to score the winning goal, it’s even more special. We didn’t play so well, but sometimes football is like that. But we scored a goal and, in my opinion, we deserved it. I’m so happy because of 200 caps, but this is even more special.”
