Cricket stadium in Uppal goes dark as power disconnected for non-payment of dues | Cricket News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Adding to the woes of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) officials, the state electricity board has disconnected power to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket (RGIC) stadium in Uppal over pending dues of over Rs 3 crore.
It is a classic case of negligence of the officials which has resulted in the embarrassing situation.
On 29 November, the electricity department issued a notice to the HCA officials to clear a pending amount of over Rs 3 crore within seven days. With the payment not being made, the power officials disconnected supply to the stadium.
The actual pending dues were Rs 1,41,18,269 and with a surcharge of Rs 1,63,94,521 the total pending amount was Rs 3,05,12,790 (three crore five lakh twelve thousand seven hundred ninety rupees only).
In 2015, the electricity department officials had found that power was fraudulently being drawn by the HCA. The department then slapped a notice on the cricket board and sought payment within seven days. The then officials, led by president Mohd Arshad Ayub, went to court and brought a stay on the proceedings and power was restored.
However, the HCA officials thereafter didn’t bother to follow up the case and take it to its logical end. The court of the Additional District Judge, Ranga Reddy District, disposed of the case on June 13, 2018m stating ‘Dismissed For Default’.
“No one from the HCA took any interest in the case and no lawyer appeared on behalf of the association and hence the case was dismissed,” sources said.
“As the administration has almost come to a standstill due to the infighting and suspension of the Apex Council members, there is no one to look into all these matters,” the sources said.
