Noida: As the Centre reintroduces Covid protocols amid a surge in cases in China, the new hospital building in Sector 39 will again operate as a dedicated Covid facility for patients. Noida currently has two active patients-one released from the Sector 39 hospital on Sunday and another in home isolation.

In July, the Bhangel community health centre became the Covid hospital after cases came down to single digits. But recently, the Covid hospital was shifted back to Sector 39 following orders from GB Nagar district magistrate Suhas LY as part of his efforts to ramp up facilities for patients if the cases rise significantly in the coming days.

Dr Tritya Saxena, the nodal officer at the Sector 39 Covid hospital, said, “The hospital is ready to treat Covid patients. As of now, there is no Covid patient here.”

The Sector 39 hospital has 240 beds in the building, including 30 beds serving as high-end trauma care units. Earlier, officials vacated the building to make space for the District Combined Hospital and equipped it with six multidisciplinary and two C-section operation theatres.

Meanwhile, the health department has also alerted the integrated control command centre for field tracking, rapid response, and distribution of medicines to control Covid symptoms.

Dr Lalit Kumar, additional chief medical officer, Noida, will act as the nodal officer to coordinate with other teams to ensure sanitisation and other work to manage the spread of the disease. The health department will also test patients coming to all hospitals for influenza-like symptoms and fever, which are common signs of Covid infection.

The data on the Cowin portal showed that Noida has administered over 46 lakh vaccine doses, including 4 lakh precautionary doses so far while Ghaziabad has administered over 76 lakh vaccine doses, including 8.14 lakh precautionary doses.

The Centre had made the precautionary doses free of cost at all government facilities till September 2022. Health officials said that government facilities would seek more free vaccine doses to meet the current demand while private facilities are now administering vaccine doses in the paid mode.

Ghaziabad has reported 10 Covid cases in December so far, while the health department has issued an advisory saying that the sub-variant BF.7 of Omicron has become active in the district. All offices, public places and schools should follow Covid protocols, said health officials.
