According to the report, the Reading Mode is rolling out to the Chrome browser on Mac, Windows and Linux and will be available with ChromeOS version 114 later this year.
New Reading Mode in Chrome
Google has updated the Chrome browser on desktop to include the new Reading Mode. The feature can be found within the side panel’s dropdown menu which also consists of the Reading List and Bookmarks. The Reading Mode displays the webpage by removing all the distracting elements like images, videos, ads, etc in a reader-friendly view to help users focus on the content of the page.
When Reading Mode is enabled it appears side-by-side with the original page. The mode also offers the option to increase and decrease the width, font size, and font and change the background colour to light, dark, yellow and blue along with adjust margins.
Steps to enable Reading Mode on Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome and install the latest version
- Now, open any webpage which has some reading content in it
- Click on the side panel and open the dropdown menu
- Choose Reading Mode option
That’s it. A new page will open on the side of the webpage transformed into the reading mode.
Meanwhile, Google is also planning to bring recording and transcription support for Japanese, Swedish, Spanish, Italian and other languages. Apart from this, Google is also adding a new web player that allows students and teachers to screencast on any device. These updates will be available with CromeOS 112 in April.
