chrome: Google rolls out these new features with Chrome 99 beta update – Times of India

Google has started to roll out Chrome 99 on the beta channel with new improvements and features. As per a report by AndroidPolice, with the new update, the company is testing a new shortcut that will allow you to access your downloads with a single click. The report further suggests that the tech giant will add a shortcut in the toolbar at the top right corner of the browser. The new shortcut was first spotted in the Chrome 99 Canary version in December. For context, the shortcut will be quite similar to the one seen in the Edge browser that turns blue when something is downloading and turns gray when the item is downloaded. Currently, the downloads tab in the Chrome browser is hidden under the overflow menu. It is worth noting that the shortcut is not live by default, so it is not yet known whether the company will make it available in the next stable release.
The beta version also adds support for a handwriting recognition API. The company has been testing the API for quite some time now. The API will help developers to build drawing and note-taking apps. Google is also reportedly making it easier for users mute audio from a specific tab. As per a report by Chrome Story, the latest builds of Chrome Canary come with a new flag called “Tab audio muting UI control.” Once enabled, the flag will enable a feature that will allow you to mute audio playing in any app with a single click. Currently, the browser displays a sound indicator on the tab when an audio is playing. The report suggests that the new feature will use the indicator as a button to mute the audio.
As of now, you can open the right-click menu on a tab to mute the audio. With the new feature, you won’t have to go through an additional step to mute the audio. Similar functionality was alo rolled out by Chrome’s rival browser, Firefox, recently. As spotted by Reddit user Leopeva64-2, the commit message in the flag mentions that it is an experiment to decide if the new button should remain.
