Chrisann Pereira’s mother debunks myth of her daughter being ill-treated in jail: I’m grateful that my daughter was not handcuffed
On Thursday actor Chrisann Pereira, who is currently stranded in the UAE, after being scammed, posted a letter on Instagram. In the letter, Pereira recounted her prison days as she revealed that she ‘washed hair with Tide’ and ‘made coffee from toilet water’. However, Chrisann’s family debunks the myth that the actor was ill-treated in jail.
“I’m grateful that my daughter was not handcuffed,” says Chrisann’s mother, Premila Pereira. She further adds, “I’m grateful that she got the bail. She was kept well with an air conditioner and in fact two blankets were given to her when she was feeling cold. She could even buy a calling card to speak to us, she was given food and other essentials. I am grateful to the authorities for taking care of her and she was safe with the women police.”
While Chrisann has been set free she isn’t on the Indian soil yet. It’s been around a month since she was detained at the Sharjah airport. “It’s been a horror for us but we’re very happy to hear she has been released. We are sure that the Sharjah officials will see that she’s innocent and come home at the earliest,” says Chrisann’s brother Kevin. He further adds, “It makes us feel good that she’s out, however these 26 days have felt like 10 years and we wish things moved faster for an innocent person stuck in jail.”
Several reports suggest that Chrisann was scammed as an act of vengeance, however, Kevin says that the motive behind the crime is still unclear. “We are still unsure about the motives of the criminals as the matter is under investigation. Whatever the motive, it doesn’t justify or give them a right to commit any crime,” he ends.
