CHENNAI: The IPL is all set to resume in another 40 days and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are looking to land in the UAE by August 13 to restart their preparations for the tournament. The three-time IPL champions though are yet to get the NOC from the UAE authorities to land their chartered flight.
Sources said that BCCI has already intervened to help CSK get the approval and arrive at their base in Dubai. “CSK need the approval from the UAE government to land in Dubai. BCCI is looking into the matter. CSK’s players are already in quarantine in Chennai and have arrived with negative RT-PCR Covid test reports. In fact, all the CSK players, support staff and officials have been vaccinated. So the NOC should come in a day,” a source told TOI.
While several CSK players, including captain MS Dhoni who landed in the city on Tuesday, will travel by the chartered flight on Friday, coach Stephen Fleming and the other foreign support staff will reach Dubai directly. The squad is expected to start training on August 20.
CSK will resume their IPL campaign on September 19 with a match against Mumbai Indians. The Dhoni-led side was in second spot with 10 points after seven games before the league was postponed due to Covid.
CSK gesture to former TN cricketers: CSK on Tuesday honoured four former Tamil Nadu cricketers and noted curator K Parthasarathy for their contributions to the game. Former BCCI and TNCA president N Srinivasan awarded Rs 7 lakh each to the four players – KR Rajagopal, Najam Hussain, SVS Mani and R Prabhakar – and Parthasarathy at a function here in the presence of TNCA secretary R S Ramaswamy. “CSK have a reputation of taking care of the cricket fraternity in the state. So we took the initiative to reward these veterans,” said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.
