BJP MLA Ashok Lahiri asks state govt to come out with list of beneficiaries of all schemes
Lahiri said the main focus of the state government should be capital expenditure and infrastructure development, for the development and growth of the state. “The state government should come out with the details of the Centre-sponsored schemes which are in force in Bengal,” Lahiri said. He also sought details about the eligibility lists of the candidates in various welfare schemes and said there are more than 47 schemes.
Audit of the accounts of the state government by CAG should also be done to reflect the real financial picture of the various departments, he said. He also mentioned that the Trinamool Congress government has fared in comparison to the previous Left Front government.
Lahiri, a well-known economist, made the comment when asked about the performance of present Finance Minister Amit Mitra and his predecessor Asim Dasgupta.
“I know both of them so well. But, I believe that West Bengal is doing better under the present Trinamool Congress government in terms of development,” he said speaking to the mediapersons at the state Assembly.
It was Lahiri”s first day at the Assembly after winning the state elections from the
seat.
The BJP has also raised questions about migrant workers and replying to the question, Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee said, “BJP has raised questions that around 11 per cent migrant workers had gone to various states. I want to ask what steps the Centre takes for them. We have given train fare to help them return and given them support financially. In 2020, when asked about the migrant workers when COVID was at its peak, the Centre had no data about the migrant workers.”
Chatterjee also alleged that LOP did not take part in budget discussion which is an unprecedented and historical event. “During the post-budget discussion, LOP was not inside the assembly. This has never been witnessed in the past.”
Chatterjee alleged that the “revenue that Centre collects, is distributed as the fund for various schemes. It is like the Centre gives back the money they earn as revenue from the state.”
