Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection, a historic Santa Fe resort that unveiled a $75 million renovation and restoration last summer, was recognized today as a winner of Architectural Digest’s 2022 Great Design Awards. Settled more than 150 years ago by Bishop Jean Baptiste Lamy, the storied property once served as the western home to the famed Pulitzer family. In collaboration with Dallas-based Nunzio Marc DeSantis Architects and the Hospitality Interiors Studio of global design firm HKS, Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection has been reimagined for today’s discerning traveler with new accommodations and modern amenities.

“It’s an honor for Bishop’s Lodge to be celebrated for its discerning new design on Architectural Digest’s esteemed list,” said Angelica Palladino, general manager, Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection. “A huge applause too Nunzio DeSantis, Mary Alice Palmer, Natalie Smith, and their teams for their unwavering commitment to sustaining the heritage of Bishop’s Lodge while pushing the boundaries with a modern, Southwestern design.”

Unfolding much like a village, the resort’s one-of-a-kind adobe structures were designed to flow with the land’s contours in an organic interplay of buildings and nature. The team at Nunzio M. DeSantis Architects intentionally selected earthy hues for the buildings to complement indigenous vegetation, planted areas, creeks, fieldstone textures, natural juniper and pine treescapes. For the interiors inspired by the many creative cultures that have been drawn to Santa Fe over the centuries, HKS particularly drew inspiration from the native Navajo and Hopi tribes who have worshiped and settled in the region for thousands of years. Also of notable inspiration was international fashion muse Millicent Rogers, who settled in the Santa Fe area after discovering the genius of Native American artisanship. Across the property, the interior design frames original Bishop’s Lodge artwork by New Mexican artists, such as Warren Rollins, with pieces dating back to the early 1900s.

Each year, the Great Design Awards celebrate the global design scene by honoring the most exceptional people and projects from across the globe within ten heavily contested categories. From architecture and interior design to product design, from commercial and residential projects to cutting-edge hospitality projects, this year’s awards spotlighted the exceptional works realized within the last two years.

Revered as a world-class destination for both art and design, Santa Fe is home to storied artists using various mediums, and Bishop’s Lodge, Auberge Resorts Collection is dedicated to celebrating this exceptional culture with guests. The resort plays host to workshops, art classes, fascinating culinary events and other interactive experiences with local artists and makers at its onsite Horseshoe Gallery and across the property. Most recently, it has launched a new partnership with FaraHNHeight to present a monthly event, AIR (Artists in Residence). On the first Friday of every month, FaraHNHeight artists will be on-site painting and discussing their work, followed by a special artist reception and live painting on SkyFire’s terrace on Saturday.
