bezos: Why Elon Musk wants to send a silver medal to Jeff Bezos – Times of India
They are two of the richest men in the world. In the last 12 months or so there has been a game of musical chairs between Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos in the world’s richest person list. Now, the Tesla CEO has overtaken the Amazon founder once again and the Tesla CEO couldn’t resist a jibe. According to a report by Forbes, Musk became the third person to cross $200 billion in net worth. “I’m sending a giant statue of the digit ‘2’ to Jeffrey B., along with a silver medal,” Musk reportedly told Forbes in an email.
It was last August when Bezos became the first person to have crossed $200 billion in net worth. But it has been a remarkable turnaround for Musk since March 2020, when his estimated net worth was ‘just’ $24.6 billion. At that time Bezos was worth about $115 billion. However, Tesla’s shares have skyrocketed in the last one year or so. The Forbes report says that they have been up a whopping 720% in 2020, which have resulted in Musk’s net worth shooting up dramatically.
In January 2021, Musk became the world’s richest man for the first time. Since then Musk and Bezos have traded places quite a few times on the list. According to Forbes, Musk’s estimated net worth stands at $200.7 billion. Bezos is the second richest man in the world and his estimated net worth is around $192.5 billion.
Both men have become ‘fierce’ rivals recently over their space exploration companies. Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’ Blue Origin have been trading blows and trying to outdo each other. Blue Origin filed a lawsuit against the US government for giving SpaceX a contract. Musk even said that Bezos retired from the post of Amazon CEO to sue people full-time.
