Badshah goes mushy with his new song Jugnu
What is this song all about?
It’s a love song. It’s got some old school vibes. It’s also a visual spectacle. It has got a lot of VFX and has got a lot of style. Rest, you will know once you listen to the song.
How is this one different from your previous songs?
Oh, it’s actually very different because it’s a song. There is no rap. I have hardly done any love songs. I mean, barring Tareefan, which was a lyrical, Tareefan 2 was semi-love, but this is a song about what happens when you fall in love. At least for me, this was like what happened when I felt for the first time. I have tried to dance as well.
What inspired you to make this song?
Genuinely, what inspired me to make this song was the need to give something different from what is going on in the world of music or what is being heard or what is being consumed by the audience at this time. And I mean internationally, because of Internet the consumption of music has gone universal. As an artiste, I think you must have a creative element.
When did you start shooting for it?
I can’t even remember when we started shooting, but the work is still going on. There’s so much money being spent because it’s VFX- heavy visual and even as we speak, there are three different studios working on the VFX right now. So, scale wise it’s quite big.
Your songs have either been raps, remixes or originals with a folk touch. What do you enjoy the most?
All the songs I make, I love them. The music that I make is the type of music that I love, the music that I would listen to. The closest to my heart are the ones which I put out on my YouTube channel randomly, without any video. They are the rawest raps. They are like emotions, and I post them with no expectation from the audience.
We have also heard that there is a challenge coming up on YouTube Shorts.
I think it’s a great collaboration strategically as well as creatively because YouTube has been quite instrumental when it comes to the growth of artistes. YouTube plays an important role in shaping up the artiste today, to provide them a platform internationally, nationally, regionally. So, it was only natural when YouTube came up with a short format feature I had to associate with it and hence we did the #JugnuChallenge on YouTube Shorts.
